Living in Key West certainly has its perks! Sunny weather, never cold, island culture, great food, music, and nightlife. In Key West, there are a lot of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and parks, plenty of laid-back happy hours to enjoy. 


Key  West, a small island city in the Florida Keys, is a fantastic place to call home. Located just 90 miles north of Cuba, it's the southernmost point in Florida. There's much to love about the area, from the snorkeling to the relaxed lifestyle and fantastic weather.


Many busy professionals live in Key West.  Of course, there are a fair amount of local natives who are lovingly called "conchs". The public schools in Key West are highly rated. Great food, music, and nightlife. Boating, sunset sails, snorkeling, and fishing are just a few of the many activities you can take full advantage of. How about wandering the streets of Old  Town or going on some history/ghost tours? You might even decide to try and survive the notorious Duval Crawl!


Keep in mind that vacationing isn’t like living here.  Nor is spending a couple of months over the winter...  Living here is a whole other experience.

It varies. If the housing is just for yourself- look to pay $1500-$2000 for splitting a rental with someone else or finding a small apartment. If you want a rental to yourself expect to pay $1700-$3000. Many of our technicians/workers commute from some of the keys just north of here to find more housing options. We recommend looking on the Facebook Marketplace, contacting rental companies, etc. There are even a few FB groups that are exclusively about housing/rentals. Most people who live in the Keys rent. 


Owning here can be pricey with most 3/2 being no less than $600,000.


Renting a 2/2 is typically found between $2700-$3750. Some people opt to acquire a rental and sublease out the space they don't need which can cut down on the individual cost of renting. If you have a family in tow and need a 3/2 or something more spacious you will certainly pay over $4K for that much square footage.


There is subsidized housing in the area- you would need to apply and get on a waitlist.


Another popular option is to live in a camper or RV. Big Pine Key and a few other places have long-term options. Prices vary depending on the size and AMP/AMENITY requirements. The best way to find them is to go to Google Maps and take a look around with a quick search. Facebook Marketplace also has some private space listings.


Living aboard a boat anchored offshore is an option as well. You have to utilize a dingy to get back to shore and have a place to park your transportation. Boat rentals are also available and range in cost.


Living dockside at a local marina on a boat could be right for you if you already own and don't mind paying a higher price. 

Key West is a sunny beautiful place to live.  Our climate is described as mild-tropical. Temperatures from  December through February do not typically dip below 75 degrees during the day. Low temperatures might hit the mid-60s. Winter pretty much ends in January in this part of the world. Key West averages 44 inches of rain yearly, slightly higher than the nation's 38-inch average. The island tends to have the most rain between June and November.

The average cost of living in Key West, Florida, is 23.5% higher than in Miami, Florida. How much do you need to make to live in the Florida Keys? A person living in Key West, Florida, needs to make as much as $19.98 per hour for a one-person household or $28.57 per hour for a two-person household to live comfortably.

In our business, we don't accept/allow this mindset! We do background checks and drug tests. We also expect you to show up to work on time and do what you say you're going to do!

We will be providing training at Mobile Marine Repair Services & Key West Boat Repair & Maintenance. You will also learn things about our business that are proprietary knowledge of our marine industry in Key West. For that reason, we don't allow our mechanics/technicians to moonlight, taking on other side work that is related to the Marine Repair/Boat Restoration industry. We aren't in the business of training-up competition! If you are of an entrepreneur mindset and want to work with us for a season only to take the knowledge you gain (at our expense) and attempt to open your own marine repair/boat restoration company- no thanks! 

We ask all of our employees to sign a non-compete agreement for the Keys area. Don't waste your time or ours if this is your intention. 


The mechanics/technicians who work with us already know how hard it is to run a business. They know that taxes, bookkeeping, insurance, payroll, scheduling, advertising, marketing, hiring, firing, dealing with client complaints, etc. are just a small portion of what it takes to be successful in business. The right fit for our company is a mechanic/technician who wants to work during the day and then go home with no further business obligations or hassles. Maybe you have already tried running a business on your own and realize that it's not right for you. If that's you, come work with us!

If you are serious about working with us doing Marine Repair Service and Boat Restoration please submit your resume! We only take seriously the applicants who have made moves to secure housing and have found a rental or who have a solid plan in place for their living space. Understandably, we can't waste time going through the interview process with someone who isn't serious about living in Key West, FL. 


In the past, we've interviewed and interviewed only to find that the applicant hadn't done due diligence in researching and securing housing. The result was wasted time for both the applicant and us. Please don't be that person!


Submit your application and tell us via a cover letter or email about your plan or secured housing. We need to know that you are serious and have taken the necessary steps to accept a position with our company if offered.
